She legally changed her surname at age 15, adopting a name she liked "Portia" in honor of the Shakespearean character in 'The Merchant of Venice.' Portia considers it to be one of the most risky things she's ever done. She said that her decision to alter her name was caused by her own struggle with her sexual identity. Portia was introduced to the film industry with the romantic comedy drama "Sirens," starring Hugh Grant. Portia also played a role in several American television series and movies including Too Something, Nick Freno, Licensed Teacher, Arrested Development, and Better Off Ted.
